Day1

From Yerevan to mountainous Lori Region lost in green

  • Mountainous Dsegh lost in green
  • Lake Tsover
  • Haghpat and Sanahin Monasteries
  • Akhtala Monastery
In the morning we will move from Yerevan to the birthplace of Armenian writer H. Tumanyan, Dsegh, lost in green and mountains. Our first stop will be the house-museum of the poet. After walking through the museum we will go to neighboring Saint Grigor Lusavorich church where H. Tumanyan’s father, Ter Tadevos, served as a clergyman. Then we will go to glorious Lake Tsover lost in green which is one of the pearls of Lori. After we will move to Haghpat monastery which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 976 king Ashot the 3rd and his wife Khosrovanuysh founded the first Saint Nshan church of the monastery and the unity for their sons. Adjacent to the monastery has also been renowned sacred school. After seeing all the buildings of the monastery we will move to Sanahin monastery situated on the upland plateau of the right bank of Debed river. According to a legend, in the monastery dated to 10th century Grigor Magistros Pahlavuni has been a schoolmaster, the hall constructed between the churches of Saint Astvatsatsin and Saint Amenaprkich, which are parts of the monastery, is called “Seminary of Magistros” named after him. Discovering the whole beauty of Sanahin we will continue traveling to North, Akhtala, which is one of the Chalcedonian monasteries of Armenia which construction coincides with the period of Rebirth of Armenia. Saying goodbye to Lori we will return to Yerevan with the hope to come back again.
