Arrival in Yerevan.
After hotel check-in, some rest and lunch we take a trip to the religious center of the Armenian Apostolic Church and a UNESCO World Heritage site Holy Ejmiatsin cathedral (303 AD). Here we will also tour the museum that keeps extraordinary religious artifacts (for example, the spear with which Jesus Christ's body was pierced). Those who wish may attend the evening mass in the church (in case we arrived there in time). Then we return to Yerevan and take a walk in Republic Square, Abovyan Street, North Avenue, by the famous Opera building and "Cascade".
Today we take a trip to Lake Sevan, the treasure of Armenia, one of the unique high-altitude freshwater repositories of the world (2000 meters above the sea level). Those who wish can swim in its refreshing waters (in summertime). From here we travel through the town of Dilijan and the scenic National Park (they call it “Caucasian Switzerland”) to Lori region. It is famous for its Sanahin monastery (10th century), UNESCO World Heritage site. Returning to Yerevan in the evening by the road on the slopes of magestic Mount Aragats.
We travel south through Ararat valley, first on our route is legendary Khor Virap, the dungeon where St. Gregory the Illuminator was jailed for thirteen years before converting Armenia into the world’s first Christian nation in 301 AD. The breathtaking view of Mount Ararat from the chapel here will be a memorable experience. Through rugged terrain we drive to the renowned Monastery of Noravank (13th century) located in a red-rock canyon, one of the most spectacular sceneries in the country.
Then we return to Yerevan and take an excursion in the famous Yerevan Brandy Factory (founded in 1887). In addition to production and storing process we will have a chance to taste this flavourful drink.
Before the afternoon departure we still have time to visit an extraordinary sight, the pagan temple of Sun in Garni. The route lies through picturesque mountains to the east of Yerevan. Garni was built 2000 years ago by Armenian king Trdat who received contribution from Roman Emperor Nero. Garni is a unique monument in the whole regions, including all neighboring countries. After Garni we return to Yerevan and head to the airport for departure.
